NYC Advanced Screening of New Girl

Summer is almost over which means the television schedule will be jam packed with your regular favorites and new shows ready to knock your socks off. One show that I'm truly excited about is Fox's New Girl starring the beautiful Zooey Deschanel (My Brother is an Idiot, Elf). New Girl premieres September 20th @ 9/8c on FOX.
About New Girl:
Jess Day (Zooey Deschanel, ("500 Days of Summer") is an offbeat and adorable girl in her late 20's who, after a bad breakup, moves in with three single guys. Goofy, positive, vulnerable and honest to a fault, Jess has faith in people, even when she shouldn't. Although she's dorky and awkward, she's comfortable in her own skin.  More prone to friendships with women, she's not used to hanging with the boys - especially at home.

Sounds great, right? Well 1 lucky reader will get a pair of tickets to see an advanced screening tomorrow August 31st while sipping on some cocktails & hors d'oeuvres at a location in New York City. The 1st person to comment will attend!
Your entry is only valid if you include a way for me to contact you (either an email address in your comment or on your profile).

The Gift of Camp (In Maine)

boyslaughing.jpg
Summer is at its end. Kids are heading back to school. My son starts tomorrow. Its back to the grind for him. Check out this guest post by Role Mommy's writer network about The Gift of Camp (In Maine)
Throughout the school year our children can be overscheduled, stressed out and plugged in to some or multiple electronic devices. It is pretty unavoidable; between iTouches, iPads, computers, video games and TV, kids spend a good amount of their day "plugged in".

Summer is the ideal time to literally unplug your child. There is no homework and the weather is perfect for outdoor fun and learning. When you send your child to camp in Maine, the majority of camps do not allow any electronics whatsoever. At some camps the older kids can listen to music during quiet time in their bunks... but for the most part it's all about enjoying the beauty and nature surrounding them. Ronald Hall camp director of O-AT-KA feels "When you are enjoying what Maine has to offer, you don't need any outside distraction. You learn to appreciate the sounds of the wilderness."

Kids these days have a lot of pressure on them, whether it's academically, socially or even when it comes to material objects; there is always competition over who has what. For those glorious weeks they are at overnight camp, they don't have to worry about all that. Everyone is on the same playing field. Pam Cobb, Director of Camp Runoia says "Some campers feel relieved to not be plugged in. They have a chance to decompress."

When you give your child the gift of sending them to overnight camp, they grow in so many ways, and unplugging them for that time is priceless. Interacting personally with peers and staff, connecting with the incredible water and nature, encouraging self-discovery and skill development, are all the rewards of unplugging at Maine camps. To find out more about all the amazing overnight camps in Maine, please visit Maine Camp Experience and start planning the best summers of your children's lives now!

Having fun in the dark with Glow Crazy {Review & Giveaway} CLOSED

We have been trying to get our son to sleep in his own room for the past few weeks. He starts out by sleeping in his bed (with one of us laying with him) then he ends up staying there till morning. Its just getting him to stay in his room in the dark that has been a problem. One of the things that has helped him make his stay alone in the dark bearable is Glow Crazy.
I was given the chance to review two products by Glow Crazy. I received the Glow Crazy Distance Doodler and the GlowCrazy Glow to Go. I have seen these toys advertised on tv so I was excited for the opportunity.
When we took our road trip to Hershey Park last month, I bought along the Glow to Go. It's lightweight and has an inside zipper to keep the stencils in. There's no mess involved. My son had fun doodling in it during the 3 hour trip.

With the Glow Crazy Distance Doodler he had a blast creating images on his walls. He would practice writing his name & silly doodle lines.
My son had no problem with keeping the button down on the doodlers. It was a great toy that kept him using his imagination. Its affordable at $24.99 for the Distance Doodler and $19.99 for the Glow to Go. It can be purchased online at www.glowcrazy.com I look forward to purchasing some as birthday presents.

*One reader will win their own Glow Crazy Distance Doodler*

Warrior NYC Screening Giveaway!

Since all of us on the East coast will be stuck indoors this weekend, I have a quick giveaway for Lionsgate's upcoming new movie WARRIOR.
Here is a brief synopsis of the movie:
Rising stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton command the screen as two estranged brothers facing the fight of a lifetime in Liongate's WARRIOR, a moving, inspirational action drama from acclaimed director Gavin O'Connor (Miracle).
Haunted by a tragic past, Marine Tomy Conlon (Hardy) returns home for the first time in fourteen years to enlist the help of his father (Nick Nolte) to train for SPARTA, the biggest winner-takes-all event in mixed martial arts history. A former wrestling prodigy, Tommy blazes a path toward the championship while his brother, Brenden (Edgerton) an ex-fighter-turned teacher, returns to the ring in a desperate bid to save his family from financial ruin. But when Brendan's unlikely, underdog rise sets him on a collision course with the unstoppable Tommy, the two brothers must finally confront each other and the forces that pulled them apart, facing off in the most soaring, soul stirring, and unforgettable climax that must be seen to be believed.

The movie sounds amazing and the 2 main characters aren't too bad too look at too, ya know? Who wouldn't want to stare at those abs for a few hours?
And if you can't wait to check out those abs here's a link to the trailer  http://www.facebook.com/buzzboNYC#!/video/video.php?v=1658585908073

Isn't this New York City?

So this has been such an eventful week thus far. It's my son's last week of his summer vacation because he starts kindergarten on Monday. We experienced a tremor from a 5.8 earthquake on Tuesday. Now we are preparing for Hurricane Irene. Really? Isn't this supposed to be New York City? I mean we just get feet of snow or hail storms at worse.
I chose to stay here and not go to the west coast because of the possibilities of earthquakes. I lived in Miami for 4 years and never experienced a hurricane. Now I'm stocking up on water, canned goods, charging up all our electronics and batteries. I have to wonder if the power is going to go out which means no elevator in our building, so up & down 17 flights we will have to go! Is my car going to be safe from all the trees? We are in Zone B so we may have to evacuate. If we do, where the heck are we going to go? Mass transit will shut down and so may the highways/bridges/tunnels. I really am starting to feel like a hamster stuck in his cage.
I was so hoping for our last weekend getaway to Atlantic City to celebrate our friend's wedding. That got nixed yesterday because of this other woman Irene.
All I can say is we're gonna batten down our hatches, eat food, catch up on reading and just enjoy each other's company. Hopefully being locked indoors for 2 days won't drive us crazy. Oh wait I have a 5 year old boy!
Everyone that is in the path of Irene, be safe & heed to your city's warnings!

Verizon Fios FlexViewing with my family

Now that football season is in full effect, its difficult to get a chance to watch our rentals. Now that we have Verizon Fios they have this incredible option called Flex View which allows you to watch movie rentals/purchases on the go on up to 5 devices (laptop, mobile device,or desktop).
My husband & I had a "date night" while our son was away. We decided to rent Hall Pass. The great thing was that we started it on our tv and then I was able to continue viewing it on our laptop since it was football night.
It was easy to watch on the laptop. We used the window player. The picture was just as clear.

Sounds great, right? Verizon FIOS is only available in select parts of the country so find out if it is available in your area here

“I wrote this review while participating in a brand team campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Verizon FiOS.Verizon will send me a gift card to thank me for taking the time to participate.”

The Help review

One of the most anticipated books turned films to be released this summer is Dreamworks The Help. I've been one of thousands of people that have been patiently waiting. So when I was given the opportunity to attend a screening last week, I cleared my schedule to make sure I could make it.
Now I must honestly admit that I haven't finished reading the book (gasp), but I do intend to. So going into the movie I had a brief synopsis of what it was about and what I expected. I can say that this movie lived up to all my expectations. It was an AWESOME movie! I never cry. I didn't cry watching Titanic, nor the Notebook but for this I did. My eyes welled up but it could have also been from all the laughing I did too. This film was hilarious even though it dealt with serious issues of our times. This story teaches you about the powerful relationships between women. The Help will make you realize how important it is to treat those around you with equal respect and love, no matter what. We are all the same.
I really suggest you grab your spouse or group of girls and head out to the theaters this weekend to catch this movie. Even if you haven't read the book, this story will touch your heart and have you appreciate those around you even more.

Tutu Goes Green by Tulani Thomas Review

Even though its the summer, we are still trying to have our son do some daily assignments. We have him writing and reading books. We don't want him to get lazy once school begins in just a few short weeks.
One of our new favorite books is Tutu Goes Green. I met the author, Tulani Thomas at this years Book Expo. She's a local New York mother of two, corporate lawyer turned author. As a mom, she knew that it is important to teach our children at an early age about saving our earth. That is exactly what her book is about.

Tutu is a young girl who wants to keep our earth clean. Throughout the book, she displays different ways how we can recycle, and reuse many things such as plastic bottles, old notebooks and shopping bags. Making simple changes to our daily lives will make a difference to the type of earth our children will be living in. I want my son to learn all these steps so he can have a brighter & healthier future.

Go to their website Tutu Goes Green and find out where you can purchase this book to add to your child's library. As of October it will be available in your local Barnes & Noble bookstores. I highly suggest it. Its a great beginning book for anyone ready to save our Earth.
Follow Tutu on Facebook to keep posted on her upcoming events and stop by to say hello!

Many thanks to Tulani Thomas for giving me this great book to share with my son. It was a pleasure meeting you and I wish you much success!
